Whether it was in the comment section or in his following videos, he talked about the opinions he received. He ended his videos asking for criticism of his opinions as well as his coverage of the news. He also encouraged what those media shills wouldn't: criticism. He cursed when something was terrible, didn't censor himself, and talked about news you wouldn't always hear (like human rights violations in Singapore). Megyn Kelly's 7-hour makeup job and fake smile, and Brian Williams' corporate-made teleprompter drivel, and every other hack that exemplifies the politically-biased media machine that tells us what we're supposed to feel bad about and doesn't even talk about things they don't want us to know, are intolerable. He was a preferable alternative to the grim, and fake, faces we see on regular news. I think I figured out the appeal of sxephil. He sometimes went over celebrity news, first calling it "News but not really news." Celebrity news rarely covered a significant part of his videos, and even then it was only about the most notorious events like Miley's VMA's. While he gave us real world news, like drone strikes or, most memorably, the tense events in Gadhafi’s last days, he also interlaced his videos with esoteric, funny news (they usually made the title of the video, i.e. I learned something every day and laughed all the while. He was sarcastic, foul-mouthed, and most importantly, not serious. He was a lovable guy, beginning his videos by welcoming back his "beautiful bastards" or "the Nation", and smiling and joking while delivering the news.
